Can I burn a HD DVD using a MacBook Pro's drive?

More precisely: MacBook Pro(10.6.2) bought in August 2008?I need to burn a 11 GB movie onto some kind of disc so HD DVD is the only one(given that I don't want to buy a BD writer)..so..can I burn a HD DVD(15 GB I guess) without having to buy additional hardware?
