Just FYI, the Da Vinci Code is not history, it is fiction . To the actual qestion - pop culture because people arent visiting beacuse of the historical, cultural, or artistic content but because of the book. cant say that it either helped or hurt, no matter the reason why people visit, at least they learn something.
