How can i make my relationship with God stronger?

well I'll only 14 years old so anyone can see that my devotion to God is 80% made by my parents, but i recently had an epiphany. after watching mel gibsons Pion of the Christ I cried my heart out until my pillows wouldn't hold anymore water(literally) because i realized that Jesus did that just to save us all even though he never met us. so i want to make my relationship with God's stronger. i was thinking maybe joining the church choir or volunteering at homeless shelters, going to confession more often or trying to pray before my head hits the pillow becuz i. Instantly fall asleep. Is there anyting else I could do? Thanks (:
